About us

History

Rose Coffee Roasters was founded in Zurich in 2022 (Originally with Frederic Brunner) with one clear intention: to roast coffee that makes you stop, think, and taste.

Behind Rose is Matt Winton, 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion, whose pursuit of coffee has taken him from repairing helicopters in Australia to pouring brews on world stages. That same precision and curiosity now drives our roasting. He's joined by 2022 UK Brewers Cup Champion Sierra Yeo, and very important people, Gregor and Pablo.

Roasting

We work closely with producers who share our appetite for quality and innovation. Every coffee we select carries a story of place, craft, and ambition. Our job is to honor that story - through meticulous profiling, clean execution, and a refusal to settle for “good enough.”

Coffee, for us, is not routine. It’s connection. It’s the shared thread between farmers experimenting on mountain slopes, roasters fine-tuning machines in an industrial corner of Zurich, and people everywhere pausing to take in a cup.

Sourcing

None of this exists without the people who grow coffee. We work directly with producers who aren’t just maintaining quality but actively pushing it forward. These are long-term partnerships built on respect and shared ambition, not just transactions.

When you drink a Rose coffee, you are tasting the work of producers like Kai Janson in Panama, Pepe Jijon in the Intag Valley, or Tamiru Tadesse in Ethiopia - people whose dedication to their craft inspires ours. We don’t take their trust lightly, and our responsibility as roasters is to carry their coffees faithfully from their hands to yours.

Partners

Rose is built on partnerships - with innovators who shape the tools we use, and places to drink a cup of Rose coffee. In particular;

Stronghold provides the roasting technology that lets us unlock nuance with precision. Every roast we do is with a Stronghold S7X, or S9X on renewable electricity.

Sibarist pushes the boundaries of brewing through pioneering filter design, who we've worked with together for incredible new tools and papers.

Collective Bakery, and ROOTS have been constant local allies, serving our coffees daily and keeping us connected to community through their several locations in Zurich.

Roast and Brewing Philosophy

What we like in the cup dictates how we source, roast, and brew. Overall we like sweetness, bright flavours, and balanced cups.

Our Filters are designed to be bright and clean, with as much sweetness as we can before tasting any "roastiness".

Our Espressos are designed to be balanced, and sweet, focusing on the sweetness, and trying to avoid excess acidity in the cup.

Our Promise

When you buy from Rose, you can expect transparency, rigor, and a bit of obsession. We share not only tasting notes, but also the details behind origin, variety, and process, because the story matters as much as the flavor, and we've gone to the effort to find out.

We are a small, independent roastery. That means no shortcuts, no cheap blends, and no compromise on what goes into the bag. It also means you can expect coffees that are bright, sweet, and hopefully leave you wanting more.

Why Rose?

A rose is simple and familiar, but also layered and complex. It can be appreciated in passing, or studied in depth. That duality is what we want our coffees to be: instantly enjoyable, yet endlessly rewarding.

We do what we do, so that you can get a coffee that makes your day better. When one sip can put a smile on your face. When one more year buying from a producer can support their dream. When you look forward to getting another bag of Rose coffee.
