Kenya - Kigari AA - SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11 - Washed

This is a very fine example of excellent Kenyan coffee, we find it very light and crisp and juicy, with a bright cup profile, and clean! 

It's from a school actually! The Kigari Teachers College, who have an agricultural faculty and help to process cherries from the nearby region, and have done so with a great focus on quality, with new machines for depulping and systems for washing. They also create organic fertiliser from animal waste, at the college, which then goes to farmers producing the cherries supplied to the mill. 

This coffee was depulped on their Penagos depulpers, and then washes and ferments to get this clean, bright berry character in the coffee! 

This is quite a standard preparation of washed Kenyan coffees, but certain areas are producing higher quality, or local conditions can improve growing and processing quality. 

This is the second Washed Kenyan lot we have purchased, and have done so with the help of our partners at Nordic Approach, where they work closely with in-country partners and we trust they work as sustainably as possible in the area, to grow together with the farmers and washing stations on the ground.
